Workout Motivation: 8 Ways to Motivate Yourself to Workout at Home

Let’s face it—it is so hard to workout at home.

When you’re at home, it is so much easier to just sit on the couch, relax, cook, clean, organize, scroll through social media…anything but workout — trust me! I was there before. The temptations are there!

As a busy mom, it is much harder to go to the gym nowadays and for this reason, home workouts have now become a regular thing. It took a little bit to find a new groove, but I have finally figured out what motivates me to get these at home workouts done.

As I have talked about before—I crave exercise. It has always been an outlet for me; both physically and mentally. Even if I don’t workout for a day, I feel like a crap. Even if it’s only 15 minutes, it makes me a better mom, wife, friend and I feel much better about myself.

What is your why?

I exercise to stay fit, to feel good and it truly puts me in a good mood. and of course, let’s be real, I also exercise so I can eat a lot, because I love to eat. haha.

So, how do I motivated myself to workout at home despite all of the distractions?

Here are some tips to get you set up for successful home workouts

  1. Build your home gym— let’s be real, your house is not a gym, so you most likely do not have tons of equipment. I slowly built our garage gym over the last year and it is a space that I get excited to use! Even if you have to move a table and set out your mat, make it your space! 2. Make a playlist

There is nothing more motivating than having your favorite workout music going during a workout. Think about when you went to the gym and forgot your headphones, how much it killed your workout mood. Same thing at home. If you have music that you are excited to listen to and turn that on, it can get you more motivated to complete your workout. Set up speakers, get a music player or like I do, just play it from your phone speakers.

3. Plan out your workout and write it on a dry erase board.

I have mentioned it in my blog about ways to stay on track for your goals, but here it is again. Make sure you have a planned workout that you scheduled in and write it out so you see what you need to complete. This was a game changer for me. As you can see below, that is my dry erase board that my husband hung for us to have to write out the workout of the day. Seeing it there, makes me so much more motivated because I do not have to think!

5. Accountability Partner(s)

Find someone who you send your completed workout too or even someone to come over and workout with you. Not only this but take a video or picture and share it on your social media sharing your achievements afterwards will help you grow your accountability partners and people will cheer you on and this will make you more motivated to workout. Let me tell you, all of you help keep me motivated to do what I do! I want to share videos, pictures and keep it real. I know if I do not post, I will hear it from someone and that is motivating to keep up with my workouts.

6. Dress for success

When in doubt wear workout clothes. I live in workout clothes and I am lucky enough that I can so that helps me stay motivated! If your goal is to workout at home in the morning, already have your workout clothes laid out and put them on immediately in the morning. Tell yourself “I am not taking these off until I sweat in them”. If you are working out at home after work, same thing, immediately put them on and tell yourself the same thing. This also means, treat yourself to some workout clothes that make you excited to put them on and to workout in. One’s that you feel comfortable in and motivate you to sweat. I love nike, Lululemon, Kora fitness (use TaylorMerritt15 for 15% off), and Alo.

7. Reward yourself

I like to tell myself if I workout 5 times a week, I get to eat out and enjoy my favorite food (aka pizza or mexican food). For some it might be going to buy something new for yourself, or putting money in to save for a trip. Find what will really motivate you to grab the weights and get moving.

8. Remember your WHY and your GOALS!

Why did you want to start working out in the first place? I shared my why’s in the beginning and I want you to constantly remind yourself about your why and what goals you have set for yourself.  Remember YOU’VE GOT THIS!

I believe in you!
